Ms Hilaria Chamin Yeung is a registered music therapist, music educator, classically trained pianist and award-winning pop musician. She is currently residing in Brisbane, Queensland where she runs a private music studio 'Sowing Music' providing quality music therapy and music tuition services.
Hilaria holds a Master of Music Therapy from University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where she studied piano with Australian pianist and educator Jenni Flemming. Her tertiary studies and musical experiences have not only given her strong music knowledge and performing skill but also knowledge of growth and development, and strategies to engage with each individual through music.
Hilaria has studied piano pedagogy at the Conservatorium, and taught more than two hundred students in music schools as well as privately in both individual and group piano/music lessons since 2009. She also has experience running music groups for children ranging from newborn to school aged. She enjoys teaching piano and music to children and adults from different backgrounds and abilities, and is able to teach different styles ranging from classical to pop. Hilaria is a friendly, patient and positive teacher who is always willing to put extra effort into understanding each student’s needs, discovering their strengths and helping them reach their goals in their music learning journey. Apart from piano playing techniques, she also emphasises on developing students’ musicality to help them become a true musician rather than just a 'piano player'.
As a music therapist, Hilaria has a strong mission to contribute her music and therapy skills to help children and adults with special needs and disabilities to grow and live a better life. She understands the importance of seeing every person as a unique individual and uses a holistic and client-centered approach to meet every client’s needs and preference. She has related music therapy clinical experience in special education, organisational and private settings. Through her music therapy studies and clinical experiences, she has obtained and developed relevant skills to work with clients/students with special needs and disabilities. These skills include communication approaches/techniques (Auslan, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) & Intensive interaction), group behavior management and advanced music improvisation skill (keyboard, singing & percussion). She has also gained other music therapy clinical experience in hospitals in the areas of child and youth mental health, and geriatric rehabilitation.
Also as an award-winning pop musician, Hilaria has been performing regularly as a pianist and singer in cultural festivals, government and corporate events around Queensland. She also serves as a worship leader and instrumentalist (vocal, keyboard and guitar) and Sunday School teacher at her local church.
